NDLEA seizes 457kg of cannabis, arrests suspected trafficker in Edo

- Seizure of 457 kilograms of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) Operatives of the NDLEA arrested a suspected drug trafficker identified as Abdulrahman Suleiman. The operation took place in Edo State, specifically along the Benin-Auchi Expressway. The seizure and arrest occurred in early June 2024. The operation was based on credible intelligence and meticulous surveillance.
- DLEA officers first intercepted a commercial bus (a Toyota Hiace) traveling along the Benin-Auchi Expressway. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the 457kg of cannabis, which was cleverly concealed.
- While the bus driver managed to escape upon sighting the officers, the agency’s intelligence unit immediately launched a follow-up operation. Their efforts led them to a hideout in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, where the prime suspect, Abdulrahman Suleiman, was apprehended.
- During preliminary questioning, Suleiman allegedly confessed to being the owner of the illicit drugs and provided information about his criminal network.
The suspect, Abdulrahman Suleiman, will be prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of the investigation, facing charges related to drug trafficking, which carry severe penalties under Nigerian law.
