Gunmen abduct nursing mother and baby in Ondo

According to reports from family members and community sources, a group of armed gunmen stormed the family’s home. They broke down the door and gained access to the house while the family was asleep.

The husband of the victim, Mr. Folorunsho, managed to escape the attack by jumping through a window. He immediately raised an alarm, but by the time help could arrive, the gunmen had already fled with his wife and their infant child.

The incident has thrown the Oba-Akoko community into a state of fear and panic, as residents express concern over the growing insecurity in the area.

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that they are aware of the situation and that police operatives have been deployed to the area.

She assured the public that an investigation has commenced and that the command is doing everything possible to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. The police have also appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the rescue of the mother and child.

This abduction highlights the persistent security challenges facing various parts of Nigeria, including the South-West region. Communities in Ondo State, particularly in the Akoko area, have recently experienced a rise in cases of kidnapping and banditry, leading to calls for increased security presence and more decisive action from the government.
