Approximately seven gunmen, suspected to be cultists, arrived in two vehicles and singled him out.​The First Casualty: When Azuazu’s personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu, tried to intervene and stop the abduction, he was immediately shot dead by the assailants.​The Recovery (Feb 6, Afternoon): After a frantic search by local security networks and the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Azuazu’s headless body was discovered dumped in a nearby forest.
