Two police officers arrested over d3ath of commercial motorcyclist during unathorized stop-and-search in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command is currently under fire after a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Sanni Salisu, lost his life during an unauthorized stop-and-search operation in the Moniya area of Ibadan.

The incident, which took place on April 24, 2026, has sparked massive outrage across the state, leading to a violent clash between residents and security operatives.

What Really Happened?

According to official statements, two officers attached to the Kara Police Outpost allegedly conducted a “rogue” operation—stopping Salisu without official clearance.

Reports state that during the encounter, the 35-year-old rider reportedly suffered a medical emergency (suspected to be an epileptic seizure) and collapsed. While the officers rushed him to a hospital in Akinyele, he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, has moved quickly to calm the brewing storm. He has officially ordered the arrest and detention of the two officers involved, handing them over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full-scale probe.

“The Command will not shield any officer found guilty of professional misconduct. We urge the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course,” the Command stated.

NaijaTunesHub Perspective

This incident highlights the recurring tension between the “Men in Blue” and the everyday Nigerian struggling to make a living. While the police claim an autopsy is needed to confirm if the death was purely medical or induced by the stress of the encounter, the question remains: Why were they conducting an unauthorized search in the first place?
