FCT Senatorial Poll: I Don’t Have Wike To Contend With – Aisha Yesufu
Prominent activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has dismissed the influence of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), regarding her ambition to contest the FCT Senatorial seat.
Speaking on her political aspirations following her high-profile transition to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Yesufu made it clear that she does not see the FCT Minister as a major hurdle in the upcoming poll
- Wike Won’t Be a Factor: Yesufu emphasized that the FCT election relies on the mandate of the residents rather than the influence of an appointed minister. She firmly believes voters will choose candidates based on merit and capacity rather than political godfatherism.
- Public Fatigue with the Ruling Party: She asserted that Nigerians, particularly residents of the capital territory, are increasingly tired of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration. According to her, this widespread dissatisfaction will drive a push for alternative political leadership.
- Focus on Policy and Legislation: In her media appearances, Yesufu has shifted the conversation away from political godfathers and onto her legislative agenda. She has already outlined plans for her time in the Senate, including a commitment to sponsor seven key bills aimed at driving institutional and social reform.
The FCT Senatorial race is shaping up to be a highly competitive battleground. With Yesufu positioning herself under the banner of the NDC and directly challenging the established political structure in Abuja, the contest is drawing significant national attention.
