El-Rufai Moves For No-Case Submission After DSS Ends Evidence In Phone Interception Trial

⚖️ HOT COURT GIST: El-Rufai Moves For “No-Case Submission” As DSS Closes Phone-Tapping Trial Case!

Things are heating up in the federal capital! The ongoing legal showdown between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, just took a massive turn in Abuja.

The DSS has officially closed its prosecution case after presenting its final piece of evidence regarding the alleged wiretapping and phone interception trial.

But instead of presenting a defense, El-Rufai’s legal team is moving to shut the whole case down entirely by filing a “No-Case Submission.”

Here is exactly what went down in court and what this legal chess move means.

📱 What is the Case All About?

If you’ve forgotten how we got here, let’s do a quick rewind.

The DSS dragged El-Rufai to the Federal High Court on an amended 5-count charge bordering on unlawful interception of communications and breaching national security.

The Genesis: The agency claims that during a live television interview back in February, El-Rufai publicly stated that he had intercepted a phone conversation involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. The DSS alleges that this leak exposed security operational plans and violated national security laws.

The “No-Case” Strategy Explained

Now that the DSS says they are done calling witnesses and presenting evidence, El-Rufai’s lead counsel, Paul Erokoro (SAN), has fired back.

Instead of putting El-Rufai in the witness box to defend himself, the defense is filing a No-Case Submission.

If you are wondering what that means in simple English:

  • The defense is telling the judge: “Look, we have looked at all the ‘evidence’ the DSS brought to this court, and it is too weak. They haven’t proven anything, so there is absolutely no reason for our client to even waste time defending himself. Just dismiss the case right now.”

🔒 Drama Over “Too Strict” Bail Conditions

While the “no-case” battle is cooking, there was also heavy drama regarding El-Rufai’s bail conditions. His lawyers begged the court to soften the terms, complaining that they are way too difficult to meet.
