Court fixes July 2 for actor Emeka Ike’s N10bn suit against Wike’s aide Lere Olayinka
N10 Billion Drama! Court Fixes July 2 for Emeka Ike’s Massive Lawsuit Against Wike’s Aide & INEC
The legal battlefield is officially set! A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled July 2, 2026, to begin hearing the staggering N10 billion fundamental rights lawsuit filed by Nollywood veteran turned politician, Emeka Ike.
The actor is dragging Lere Olayinka—the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over a massive alleged breach of his personal privacy.
What Sparked the N10 Billion Battle?
The trouble started back in May 2026 after Emeka Ike contested the House of Representatives primary ticket for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and lost.
Shortly after, Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to question the actor’s eligibility to run in Abuja. To back up his claims, Olayinka published screenshots showing that Emeka Ike had only recently transferred his voter registration from Imo State to the FCT.
The Catch: The screenshots didn’t just show public info—they allegedly contained highly confidential data straight from INEC’s restricted backend administrative portal, including Ike’s application number, Voter Identification Number (VIN), and private profile details!
An angry Emeka Ike blasted the move on Channels TV, calling it the “height of political rascality” and a blatant exploitation of his privacy.
What Emeka Ike is Demanding in Court
Through his legal team, the actor is asking the court to hold both Olayinka and INEC strictly accountable for violating his constitutional right to privacy. He is demanding:
- N10 Billion in aggravated and general damages.
- An order compelling Lere Olayinka to immediately delete the offensive post.
- A formal public apology published on Olayinka’s X handle and across three major national newspapers.
Deep Trouble for INEC?
This case has blown up way past standard political banter. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has officially stepped in and is actively investigating INEC over how a top government aide managed to lay his hands on restricted voter data.
While INEC claims its database wasn’t hacked from the outside, they admitted the leak likely came from the internal misuse of valid login credentials by authorized personnel.
Justice Salim Ibrahim adjourned the matter to July 2 to give Olayinka and INEC enough time to formally file their legal defense.
NaijaTunesHub Fam, this is getting incredibly messy! Do you think N10 billion is a fair price for leaking a citizen’s private voter details, or is Emeka Ike taking this too far? Drop your honest thoughts in the comments below!
