This is a truly heartbreaking tragedy. The details coming out of the collision along the Sokoto–Yauri highway highlight a devastating loss for multiple communities across Sokoto State.

The Incident: The crash occurred around 11:00 PM on Monday night when an 18-seater commercial bus collided head-on with a trailer shortly after Yauri town in Kebbi State.

The Victims: There were 20 people on board the bus. 18 people died at the scene, including the driver, Manniru Sabo. The passengers were Sokoto residents who had traveled to Lagos in search of better economic opportunities and were finally making their way back home.

The Survivors: Only two people survived the impact with injuries, one of whom has been identified as the bus conductor.

Impacted Communities: Because commercial buses traveling from Lagos often pick up passengers bound for various areas, the victims span several communities. Local transport union officials confirmed that victims included residents from the Kajiji Ward, Yabo Local Government Area (specifically Bingaje and Gudirriga villages), and the Gada Local Government Area, among others.
