“Once You Join APC, Your Corruption Allegations Disappear” – Peter Obi Slams Ruling Party Over Anti-Corruption Fight

Former Labour Party presidential candidate and prominent opposition figure, Peter Obi, has once again aimed a heavy jab at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of turning into a safe haven for corrupt politicians.

Speaking on the state of the nation and the government’s anti-corruption crusade, Obi criticized the selective nature of political investigations in Nigeria. According to him, the moment an opposition politician facing corruption allegations or EFCC/ICPC probes defect to the APC, their political “sins” are suddenly washed clean and the charges vanish into thin air.

A Pattern of “Political Immunity”?

Peter Obi highlighted what many Nigerians have long observed as a trend in the country’s political landscape: politicians crossing carpet from opposition parties to the APC to escape prosecution or legal heat.

“In Nigeria today, once you align with the ruling party, all your past corrupt activities are forgotten. The anti-graft agencies suddenly go quiet, and your files are closed. Joining APC has become a automatic shield against accountability,” Obi lamented.

This commentary echoes a famous remark made in 2019 by former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who openly told decampees during a rally that “once you join the APC, your sins are forgiven” — a statement that critics and opposition leaders like Obi continue to point to as proof of the ruling party’s double standards on corruption.

Rebuilding Trust in Governance

Obi stressed that Nigeria cannot achieve meaningful development, attract genuine foreign investment, or rescue its economy while operating a system where justice depends on political affiliation. He urged young Nigerians and well-meaning citizens to keep demanding true accountability rather than political patronage.

As political realignments continue ahead of future elections, Obi reiterated his commitment to building a new Nigeria where the rule of law applies equally to everyone—regardless of party logos.
