Davido slams Nigerian rapper, Erigga over comments about musicians from wealthy families
Afrobeats megastar Davido has engaged in a fiery online exchange with popular Nigerian rapper Erigga following comments about musicians raised in wealthy families.
What Triggered the Clash
The debate began when Erigga shared a post on X praising self-made artists who achieved success without financial backing from wealthy backgrounds:
“Shout-out to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Davido’s Direct Response
Davido took exception to the remark, viewing it as an unnecessary shade toward artists from affluent backgrounds like himself. Quoting the post, Davido fired back directly:
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shout-out to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top. Comot here with that your useless motivation… imbecile.”
He continued by questioning the mindset behind glorifying poverty, writing, “Deep down who like poverty?” before adding that he might eventually leave music to focus on making billions elsewhere.
Online Reaction
The clash instantly divided fans across social platforms. While some backed Erigga’s salute to the hard hustle of underprivileged talents, others defended Davido, arguing that family wealth does not guarantee longevity or talent in the competitive music industry.
