teenagers drown in Oyo river

Local divers and community members launched a search and rescue operation. The bodies of all five teenagers were recovered from the river

The incident sent shockwaves through the Iseyin community and the families of the victims, who were plunged into mourning.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident. The police spokesperson at the time, Adewale Osifeso, expressed condolences to the families and warned parents and guardians to advise their children against swimming in unsafe rivers.

This is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in Nigerian rivers. Drowning incidents are unfortunately common, especially during hot seasons or festive periods when people, particularly young people, go swimming in rivers, lakes, and beaches that may have strong undercurrents or hidden dangers.

This event highlights the critical importance of water safety and the need for supervision when children and teenagers are near bodies of water.
