Attacks On Schools Will End Soon
Very Soon, These Attacks Will Be a Thing of the Past” — IGP Olatunji Disu Assures Parents, Deploys New Strategies
Amid growing nationwide anxiety over a recent spike in school invasions and bandit threats, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has come out with a strong message of reassurance: attacks on Nigerian schools will end very soon.
Speaking in Minna, Niger State, through Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed, the IGP declared that the police high command is fully on top of the situation and implementing watertight counter-measures.
The “School Protection Unit” Steps In
To completely dismantle the threat of bandits targeting schoolchildren for ransom, the IGP revealed that a specialized School Protection Unit is leading the charge.
The unit is rolling out strict, actionable safety protocols for school administrators nationwide. According to the IGP:
“We have a School Protection Unit headed by a Chief Superintendent of Police, and we are providing all the necessary support.”
“We have also outlined protocols for school owners to follow so that we can mitigate this madness of attacks on schools, very soon these attacks will be a thing of the past.”
Tension High as Bandit Threats Cause Early Closures
This major reassurance from the police chief comes at a critical time. Over the past few weeks, panic has spread through several states.
Just recently, schools in parts of Edo, Niger, and Kogi states had to shut down early or go on temporary recess following intelligence reports from the DSS and direct threats of mass abductions by bandits. The recent attack on a UBE school in Iluke, Kogi State, and recent abductions in Oyo have further pushed national security forces to activate emergency responses.
A Collective Fight
IGP Disu made it clear that while security forces are working around the clock—including deploying all DIGs to their respective geopolitical zones to assess local threats—the public must play an active role.
The force is urging parents, teachers, and local communities to stay highly vigilant and immediately feed security agencies with credible information to stop criminals before they strike.
