US Condemns Deadly Kaduna Attacks, Demands Urgent Protection for Middle Belt Communities
The United States government has issued a strong condemnation following a violent attack on Naridon village in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which left at least 30 people dead, including women and children.
In a statement released by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs, Washington expressed its deep condolences to the affected families while calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to step up efforts to halt ongoing violence across Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
What Happened in Naridon Village?
The horrific attack took place in Naridon village, Kamaru Ward, Kauru LGA. According to local reports and community leaders:
- Midnight Raid: Armed men invaded the rural community late at night, opening fire on unarmed residents and setting homes and business centers ablaze.
- Heavy Casualty Count: At least 30 individuals lost their lives, among them eight young children, with multiple residents suffering severe burn and gunshot injuries.
- Widespread Destruction: Entire families were decimated in the raid, with locals reporting that several houses were completely burnt down before security personnel arrived hours after the gunmen fled.
US Calls for Stronger Action from Federal Government
Reacting via an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), the U.S. Bureau of African Affairs highlighted the worsening security situation in the region:
“The United States condemns the attack on a village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children. We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. We will continue to urge the Government of Nigeria to address rampant violence against vulnerable communities in the Middle Belt.”
Adding to the call, U.S. Representative Riley Moore also urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate and decisive steps to secure rural communities in the Middle Belt, stressing that protecting innocent lives must remain a top priority for the administration.
Presidency & State Government Response
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “barbaric and cowardly” act of violence.
- Directives to Security Agencies: The President directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, and intelligence agencies to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
- State Operations: Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also condemned the killings, ordering intensified security patrols across Kauru LGA and neighbouring border communities to prevent further incursions.
