David Mark Warns ADC Members Against Stockpiling Cards, Calls For Verified Membership
Senator David Mark, in his capacity as the interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has issued a stern warning to party members and stakeholders regarding the “stockpiling” of membership cards
This directive came during the official flag-off of the ADC’s Membership, Mobilization, Revalidation, and Registration (MMRR) exercise, which commenced in February 2026.
The Issue: Mark highlighted a trend where some influential party members or “godfathers” attempt to buy or stockpile large quantities of membership cards to distribute selectively.
The Risk: He noted that such practices undermine internal democracy by creating “paper members” who can be used to manipulate primary elections and party congresses
The Directives:Direct Registration: Registration must be done individually. Members are expected to register at their local wards to ensure a physical and verifiable presence
No Bulk Buying: He warned that any cards acquired through bulk purchases rather than individual registration would not be recognized during party decision-making processes.
Digital/Physical Integration: The party is aiming for a “verified membership” database that matches physical cardholders with digital records to prevent double registration or fraud.
David Mark, who transitioned to the ADC from the PDP in 2025, is leading an aggressive restructuring of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. By insisting on verified membership, he aims to position the ADC as a disciplined “third force” in Nigerian politics, moving away from the “cargo” membership style where parties claim millions of followers without a verifiable register.
This move follows the inauguration of several committees, including a Constitution Review Committee (led by Etigwe Uwa, SAN) and a Membership Committee featuring prominent figures like Aisha Yesufu and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, signaling a push for transparency and grassroots engagement.
