Court sentences ex-power minister Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison for N33.8bn fraud
The hammer of justice has fallen hard on former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, as a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to a staggering 75 years in prison.
In a landmark judgment delivered today, May 13, 2026, Justice James Omotosho found the former minister guilty on all 12 counts of money laundering and conspiracy brought against him by the EFCC.
“Nigerians Stayed in Darkness While He Lived Large”
The court’s remarks were scathing. Justice Omotosho noted that while Mamman was busy diverting funds meant for critical power projects like the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric plants, Nigerians were left to grapple with “epileptic power supply.”
The judge stated:
“Rather than creating a legacy to tackle the darkness in the country, the defendant was living large at the expense of ordinary citizens.
In a dramatic twist, the former minister was sentenced in absentia. After being convicted on May 7, Mamman reportedly “disappeared,” with his legal team claiming they lost contact with him.
The court has now issued a fresh bench warrant, directing all security agencies—including Interpol—to track him down and begin his 75-year journey behind bars the moment he is apprehended.
