Nigerian Army presents soldier with N500,000 reward for rejecting notorious kidnapper’s bribe

Real Hero! Nigerian Army Rewards Honest Soldier With ₦500,000 For Rejecting Kidnapper’s Bribe

Naijatuneshub News Desk — In a world where integrity often feels rare, a patriotic soldier attached to Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau State, Private Utim Terwase, has proven that good character still pays!

The Nigerian Army high command has officially recognized and rewarded Private Terwase with a cash sum of ₦500,000 after he bravely rejected an exact sum of ₦500,000 offered to him as a bribe by a notorious kidnapping suspect trying to escape justice.

How It Happened

According to military sources and a statement released in Jos by the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Chinonso Oteh, the drama unfolded after troops from Sector 6 apprehended a suspected kidnapper.

While attempting to make a quick escape, the desperate criminal offered Private Utim Terwase a huge stash of cash—₦500,000 in hand—demanding his freedom on the spot.

Instead of taking the “cool cash” and turning a blind eye, Private Terwase stood his ground, firmly rejected the bribe, arrested the suspect, and handed him over to the appropriate military authorities for investigation.

Recognizing his uncommon patriotism and professionalism, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Major General Maxwell Dangana, directed that Private Terwase be honored.

The cash reward of ₦500k—matching the exact amount of the rejected bribe—was presented to the brave soldier on behalf of the GOC by the Commander of Sector 6, Colonel Philimon Malgwi.

Speaking on the gesture, the military authorities commended Terwase:

“The soldier’s conduct reflects the highest standards of military professionalism, loyalty, and commitment to duty. Rather than compromise for personal gain, he upheld honesty and accountability.”
