US Midterm: Rubio Considers Quitting Trump Government As Crude Prices Fall Below $95
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has publicly dismissed reports suggesting he plans to step down from President Donald Trump’s administration following heavy Republican losses in the 2026 US midterm elections.
The rumors of potential cabinet exits surfaced alongside sharp declines in global energy markets, where crude oil futures plummeted below the $95-per-barrel mark after election day.
Rubio Pushes Back on Resignation Rumors
Following report speculation by major news outlets that Rubio was contemplating an exit to set up a potential 2028 presidential campaign, the Secretary of State directly rejected the claims in a White House interview.
“Working for President Trump until the end of his term has always been my plan,” Rubio declared. “I love the work I’m doing, and I don’t know where these reports are coming from. I literally will not talk about 2028 anymore.”
State Department officials also dismissed the rumors as baseless, confirming that Rubio remains fully focused on his dual roles overseeing US diplomacy and leading national security efforts.
Global Oil Markets React to Election Fallout
The geopolitical ripple effects of the midterm election outcomes triggered immediate reactions across world financial and energy markets:
- Crude Oil Drop: Crude oil prices tumbled past key support levels to trade below $95 per barrel amid shifting market expectations around US foreign policy, domestic energy production, and global economic forecasts.
- Diplomatic Signals: The market movement comes amid ongoing diplomatic signals regarding the Middle East and potential shifts in energy sanctions and supply routes.
Political analysts expect the post-midterm landscape to bring intensified policy debates in Washington over foreign military aid, trade tariffs, and international market stabilization.
