Ghanaian twin brothers face 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in $9 million romance fraud scheme targeting elderly Americans

FBI Justice Hammer: Ghanaian Twin Brothers Face 20 Years in US Prison Over Massive $9M Romance ScamBad news dripping in from the US Department of Justice! Two Ghanaian twin brothers who made waves online have officially pleaded guilty to their roles in a multi-million-dollar romance fraud scheme that targeted vulnerable elderly Americans. If you thought internet games had no expiry date, think again. The twins, alongside an American accomplice, are now staring straight at a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.👥 Who Are the Twins? The 22-year-old twin brothers—identified as Jamal Abubakari (popularly known by the alias "Arrangement") and Kamal Abubakari (known as "Lancaster")—were picked up by FBI agents in May 2026 shortly after arriving in the United States. According to US federal prosecutors in the Northern District of Ohio, the twins ran a sophisticated operation alongside a 53-year-old Hawaiian woman named Amanda Joy Opoku-Boachie (who also went by several aliases). Amanda copped to her guilty plea a few days prior to the brothers. 💔 How the $9 Million Scam Went DownInvestigators detailed that between July 2024 and April 2026, the network used fake personas and stolen identities on various dating platforms and social media sites. The Trap: They targeted older, unsuspecting Americans, engineering fake online romantic relationships to gain deep emotional trust. The Cash Flow: Once the victims were hooked with emotional sob stories, they were tricked into wiring massive amounts of cash. The Loot: The total losses recorded across 25 US states, Germany, Austria, and parts of Ohio crossed a staggering $9 million. Portions of this stolen wealth were funneled back to co-conspirators in Ghana and other international locations. 💎 Luxury Bling Gone & Jail Time LoomingWhen federal agents finally caught up with them, it wasn't just a regular arrest. As part of their plea deal, the twins agreed to forfeit a massive pile of luxury jewelry seized during their busts—including high-end designer watches, gold chains, rings, medallions, and expensive earrings. While they’ve entered guilty pleas for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, their final fate will be decided by a federal judge: Jamal and Kamal Abubakari are scheduled for sentencing on February 9, 2027. Amanda Joy Opoku-Boachie will face her sentencing the next day, February 10, 2027. Each defendant faces up to 20 years in federal prison. This high-profile takedown is part of the US DOJ’s aggressive Elder Justice Initiative, which has been clamping down hard on international cyber-fraud networks.
