Maduro opponent and peace prize winner Machado calls for elections as she vows to return to Venezuela
The core of Machado’s message was a direct and uncompromising demand for a competitive presidential election. She called on the Maduro administration to respect the will of the people and allow the primary winner to compete on a level playing field.
“The regime has two options: either it negotiates a peaceful transition, or it will be swept away by the force of the people and the constitution,” she stated.
Her most poignant promise was her personal commitment to return to Venezuela. Currently facing a politically motivated ban from holding public office for 15 years, Machado has been operating from outside the country for her safety. Her vow to return is a direct challenge to the government’s authority and a symbol of her defiance.
“I will return to Venezuela,” she affirmed, her voice filled with emotion. “I will walk every street, every corner of this country, to look my people in the eye and tell them that the time for fear is over.”
Machado also made a direct appeal to the Venezuelan armed forces and police, urging them to “fulfill their constitutional duty” and side with the people rather than a “dictatorship.”
In her closing remarks, she sought to inspire a nation weary of years of economic collapse, political persecution, and mass migration. “Venezuelans,” she said, “the time has come to reclaim our country. The time has come to live in freedom.”
The coming months will be a critical test for Venezuela, as the world watches to see if the government will yield to domestic and international pressure and allow its most formidable opponent in years to compete for the presidency
