US will send second aircraft carrier to Middle East ‘very soon’: Trump

The move is designed to provide “leverage” as the administration pushes for a new nuclear and ballistic missile deal with Iran

the DeploymentThe Vessel: The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the world’s largest and most advanced aircraft carrier, has been ordered to move from the Caribbean to the Middle East

the DeploymentThe Vessel: The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), the world’s largest and most advanced aircraft carrier, has been ordered to move from the Caribbean to the Middle East

The Timeline: Trump stated the carrier would be “leaving very soon.” Officials estimate it will take approximately one to three weeks to reach the region.

The Force Multiplier: The Ford will join the USS Abraham Lincoln, which arrived in the Arabian Sea late last month. This will put two carrier strike groups—roughly 150+ aircraft and a massive array of guided-missile destroyers—within striking distance of the region

Why Now?The deployment follows a series of high-stakes events in early 2026:Nuclear Negotiations: Trump has set a one-month deadline for Iran to agree to a “comprehensive deal” that includes curbs on its missile program and an end to proxy support (Hezbollah/Hamas).

Recent Hostilities: Last week, U.S. forces shot down an Iranian drone that approached the USS Abraham Lincoln, following an attempt by the IRGC to seize a U.S.-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Regime Pressure: In a speech at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), Trump signaled support for “regime change,” stating that a change in power in Tehran would be the “best thing that could happen.”

This move marks a pivot in U.S. naval strategy. The USS Gerald R. Ford had previously been stationed in the Caribbean as part of the administration’s operations following the raid that captured former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in January. Its redeployment to the Middle East indicates that the White House is now prioritizing the “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran over Western Hemisphere operations.

In case we don’t make a deal, we’ll need it… If we need it, we’ll have it ready, a very big force.” — President Donald Trump
