Police arrest alleged Drug Kingpin, seize ‘Illicit Drugs’ worth ₦7.8 Billion in Lagos raid

The Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a massive drug trafficking syndicate in Lagos, seizing a haul of suspected “Canadian Loud” (a high-potency strain of cannabis) valued at approximately ₦7.8 billion.

The operation stands out not just for the sheer volume of drugs recovered, but for a dramatic ₦500 million bribe rejection by the police team leads.

The breakthrough followed months of intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance. On May 19, 2026, a combined force of officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and divisional detectives executed a targeted raid on an apartment within a residential estate in Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

During the raid, operatives uncovered hundreds of bags of the illicit substance stored inside the property. The alleged kingpin of the syndicate, identified as Eke Henry Ifeanyi, was arrested at the scene alongside several other suspects.

The ₦500 Million Bribe Rejection

In a bid to compromise the operation and buy time to relocate the multi-billion naira consignment, the prime suspect reportedly offered a staggering ₦500 million cash bribe to the SPU commander on the spot.

The commander rejected the offer, secured the perimeter, and formally documented the bribery attempt. Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, and Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, have highly commended the operatives for their integrity and operational discipline.

Current Status: All recovered exhibits have been officially documented for court presentation. The suspects remain in custody as the police expand investigations to track down remaining affiliates of the network.
