Wike Threatens To Sack STDD Coordinator Over Persistent Refuse Dumps In Abuja
the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a final warning to the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu.
Wike has threatened to terminate Zulkiflu’s appointment if persistent refuse dumps in specific areas of Abuja are not cleared by Monday or Tuesday (February 9–10, 2026).
The Minister’s frustration boiled over during an inspection of infrastructure projects on Friday, February 6, 2026. The main points of his grievance include:Affected Areas: Wike specifically highlighted “mountainous” heaps of refuse littering the roadsides in Orozo, Apo, and Karshi. The Deadline: He stated clearly that if the waste remains by the start of next week, the Coordinator’s job will be terminated. The Rationale: Wike noted that these areas are no longer “villages” but developed urban hubs, making the current level of filth “unacceptable” and “embarrassing” to the FCT administration.
A “Public” Warning: While Wike mentioned he originally intended to address the matter privately, he chose to make the warning public to emphasize that performance is non-negotiable.
This isn’t the first time the STDD Coordinator has been in Wike’s crosshairs. In December 2025, Wike also threatened to sack Zulkiflu over allegations of illegal contract variations and a lack of communication with contractors on the Pai-Gomani-Yangoli road project.Wike’s administration has recently shifted its strategy for waste management, engaging 54 new private sector partners (PSPs) and warning them that their payments will be strictly merit-based, with zero tolerance for “weekend excuses” or poor equipment.
