Senate Approves ₦50m For Families Of Fallen Soldiers and Teachers in Oyo Rescue Operation

In a deeply emotional plenary session, the Nigerian Senate has approved a ₦50 million donation to support the families of the brave security operatives and teachers who lost their lives during the dramatic rescue of abducted school children and staff in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The schoolchildren and their teachers were successfully rescued after spending a grueling 56 days in the custody of kidnappers. While the mission was a triumph, it came at a devastating cost to five Nigerian families.

₦10 Million Each For 5 Bereaved Families

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the ₦50 million package, explaining that the funds are specifically meant to help with the upkeep and education of the children and dependents left behind by the deceased.

Under this directive, each of the five affected families will receive a ₦10 million cheque. The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has been tasked with overseeing the direct presentation of these funds.

Remembering the Fallen Heroes

The Senate paid tribute to the five individuals—three security operatives killed during intense gun battles to rescue the victims, and two beloved school teachers who were tragically murdered while in captivity.

Additionally, the Senate has urged the Federal Government to provide top-tier medical care and full welfare support to Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain, a brave soldier who sustained severe gunshot injuries while using his own body to shield the abducted children during the rescue operation.

Moving Forward

The successful rescue of the pupils has brought immense relief to families across Oyo State and Nigeria. According to medical reports from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, 35 of the rescued victims have already been certified medically fit, discharged, and successfully reunited with their loved ones.
